Each app tracks one kind of animal, using the words you would expect for it (bulls/cows/heifers/oxen/calves for cattle; rams/ewes/wethers/lambs for sheep; bucks/does/wethers/kids for goats). Pick the one matching what you farm — install more than one if you run mixed livestock, they don't interfere with each other.

No. Drawing borders and camps, recording herd counts, and doing checkups all work fully offline — that is the main point of the app. Internet is only needed to sync your farm to another phone, to send/receive push notifications, and to fetch new map tiles you haven't viewed before (see "How do I use the map offline?" below to avoid needing that too).

The first time you open the app, you'll see two choices: "Start a farm" or "Join a farm". Choose Start a farm, give it a name, and tap Create farm — no account or sign-in needed. You can add borders and camps straight away.

If someone already set up the farm and gave you a sharing code, choose "Join a farm" instead — see "How do I join a farm someone shared with me?" below.

This only works for a farm that was shared/synced (see "How do I share my farm with other phones?") — a farm kept on one device only lives on that device, so back it up by sharing it before switching phones if you can.

1. Install the app on the new phone and open it.
2. On the welcome screen, tap "Used [the app] before? Restore with Google" underneath the two big buttons.
3. Sign in with the same Google account the farm was shared under.
4. Every farm that account owns or belongs to is pulled back down automatically.

1. Open the menu in the top-left corner.
2. Tap the pencil icon next to "Land Borders" to enter edit mode.
3. Tap "Add Land Border".
4. Tap the map to place a point at each corner of your land, in order around the outside.
5. Tap Save once every corner is placed.

While placing points you can 2-finger drag to pan and 2-finger pinch to zoom without accidentally adding a point. Tap the pin icon to snap a new point onto an existing corner for a precise fit. This same walkthrough is available any time from the drawer under "How to create your farm".

A camp must be drawn inside a land border, so add the border first. Then, with that border selected, open the menu and tap "Add New Camp" — the drawing steps are the same as for a border: tap the map to place corner points, then Save. If you try to save a camp shape that isn't fully inside its border, or that overlaps another camp, the app will stop you and explain why.

For a border: open the drawer, find it under Land Borders, and tap the menu icon on it for "Edit Border" (reshape its points), "Edit Name", or "Change Color".

For a camp: tap the camp on the map or in the herd panel, then use the edit icon to open its menu — "Edit Camp Name", "Edit Camp Border" (reshape it), "Change Camp Color", or "Switch Land Border" (move it to a different border, if it fits inside).

While reshaping, tap an existing point to select and drag it, or tap empty space inside the shape to add a new point.

Open its edit mode first ("Edit Border" or "Edit Camp Border" from its menu — see above). Then tap the middle of any line between two existing points: this drops a brand-new point exactly halfway along that edge, which you can then drag to reshape the corner however you need. Tap Save once you're done.

Open its menu (see above) and choose "Delete Border" or "Delete Camp". You'll be asked to confirm — deleting a border also deletes every camp inside it, and this can't be undone. If a camp has a herd recorded, you can delete just the herd ("Delete Herd") without deleting the camp itself.

Two rules are enforced when you save a camp: every point of it must fall inside its land border, and it must not overlap any other camp already saved in that border. Redraw the corners that are outside the border or crossing another camp, and try Save again.

1. Open the menu and go to Farm Settings.
2. Tap "Not shared yet — tap to enable multi-device sync". You'll be asked to sign in with Google — this is required so the farm can be found again from any device.
3. A sharing code and QR code appear. Show the QR code to the other phone's camera, or read out/type in the code.

You can see this code again any time from Farm Settings — it's shown right there once the farm is shared.

1. On the welcome screen (or the drawer's "Your farms" if you already use the app), choose "Join a farm".
2. Either tap the QR scanner icon and point it at the sharing QR code, or type the code in by hand.
3. Enter your name if asked — this is what other members on the farm will see.
4. Tap Join farm.

You join anonymously on that device by default — no Google account is required just to join. The farm's owner decides what you're allowed to do (see "What can a farm member do?" below).

The person who created the farm always has full access. Everyone else starts with no permissions until the owner grants some, from Farm Settings → Manage members. There are four permissions: edit borders/camps, view stats, manage other users, and full admin — check whichever ones a member should have.

If you're a member and your access changed, pull it down immediately with Farm Settings → "Refresh permissions" instead of waiting for the next automatic sync.

Check a few things: the farm needs to be shared first (see above) — a farm that says "Not shared yet" only lives on that one phone. You need an internet connection to sync. And the status bar at the top of the map shows the current sync state — tap "Sync now" in Farm Settings to force an attempt and see any error.

If the status bar shows a paused/locked icon, sync has been paused because your combined herd size across all your farms is over the free limit — see "What happens if my herd grows past 200 head?" below.

Not to use the app on one phone, and not to join a farm someone else shares with you. A Google account is only needed by whoever creates/shares a farm in the first place (so it can be found again from any device), and to restore your farms onto a new phone.

Tap a camp on the map to open it, then enter the numbers for each category (e.g. cows, calves) in the herd form and save. Every change you make is kept in that camp's edit history so you can see what changed and when.

A checkup is confirming the herd count in a camp is still correct — useful after moving animals or counting them again in the field. If everything matches what's on record, mark it complete. If you couldn't account for some animals, mark it incomplete and enter how many of each category are actually missing.

An incomplete checkup shows a flashing warning marker on that camp on the map, and a banner the next time you open it, until it's resolved.

Open the camp with the warning marker and do another checkup. Once the counted numbers account for the herd again (the missing animals are found, or you correct the herd record to match reality), mark it complete — the warning clears.

Open the camp, then look for the history icon on its herd panel — it lists every edit to that herd's numbers, in order, with what changed.

When a sync brings in changes made on another phone, you can be notified about: an increase in a herd count, a decrease in a herd count, a checkup becoming incomplete, and a checkup being marked complete. Turn each on or off from the menu → Notifications.

Check that the specific type is switched on under menu → Notifications, and that the app has notification permission in your phone's system settings. Also check the farm is actually shared and syncing (see "Why isn't my data syncing?" above) — a notification only fires when a sync brings in a change made elsewhere.

Map tiles you've already viewed are cached automatically. To make sure a whole farm is available before you lose signal, open a border's menu and choose "Download Satellite Images" — this downloads every street and satellite tile covering that border's exact shape, so it's ready to view with no connection at all.

Yes. Every app is free to download and free to use on a single phone, offline, with no time limit. Syncing a farm across multiple phones is also free, up to a combined 200 head across every farm you own.

You get a 20-head grace allowance and an in-app notice before anything changes. Above the grace limit, syncing that farm pauses until you upgrade — nothing is deleted, and the app keeps working offline the whole time. Pricing rises in three steps as your total herd grows: $2/month up to 300 head, $4/month up to 500, $6/month above that, unlimited.

Manage or buy a plan from menu → Your Account → Sync Subscription. Billing is handled entirely by Google Play.

It's the total across every farm you personally own (not farms you're just a member of), added up across all the animal categories in each. Farms you belong to as a member, owned by someone else, don't count toward your total.

Subscriptions are managed through Google Play, not inside the app. Open the Google Play Store → Payments & subscriptions to cancel — you'll keep access until the end of the period you already paid for.

Go to menu → Your Account → Delete Account. This removes your device's identity and takes you out of every farm you belong to. If you own a shared farm, transfer or delete that farm first — see Farm Settings → Delete Farm.

A farm that has never been shared only exists on that one phone — losing it means losing that farm, so share it (see "How do I share my farm?") even if you're the only one using it, purely as a backup. A shared farm is stored in the cloud and can be restored onto a new phone by signing in with the same Google account (see "I got a new phone" above).
